Why are the fruits and vegetables in my refrigerator frozen?
Food items get spoiled at room temperature because of bacterial growth. Therefore, to keep the food items fresh for a longer period, the refrigerator is the safest place. Inside a refrigerator, the temperature is much lower than room temperature, which controls bacterial growth. But, a refrigerator can be useful only if the food items are stored correctly.
Reasons for freezing the fruits
- Wrong or change the temperature accidentally.
- Food is not arranged inside the Refrigerator.
- Putting the vegetables & fruits wet inside.
- Adding hot food directly inside the refrigerator.
- The door seals are broken.
Reset your refrigerator’s temperature
If your refrigerator is too cold, locate the temperature gauge and adjust it accordingly. Not sure which temperature is correct, raise the temperature in your refrigerator. The ideal temperature setting is 38º F (3º C). If you have set it colder than that, your food can freeze.
Ensure the food in your refrigerator isn’t touching any of the air vents. You can also try to distribute food evenly throughout the refrigerator or add more nutrition to your fridge.
- Move the food to a warmer part of the refrigerator, away from the vents or the rear of the fridge.
Fruits & Vegetables Drawer:
Used to preserve the freshness of your stored vegetables and fruits
- If you have a Cool Select Zone, make sure you have not stored your fruit and vegetables in the Cool Select Zone Drawer.
- If the fruit and vegetables are stored in the Cool Select Zone Drawer, move them to one of the other drawers.
- If you are storing the fruit and vegetables in the upper fruit and vegetable drawer, move them to the lower drawer.
Note: Do not put fruits & vegetables wet, If the food has high water content or is wet and you have stored it in the coldest part of the refrigerator, it can freeze.
If you immediately put hot food or hot liquids in the refrigerator you may lose their nutritive values and might just make your Refrigerator work extra hard. You should at least wait for the food temperature to come down to room temperature before refrigerating.
The seals around your refrigerator and freezer doors help keep cold air in. If the seals are leaking, Take some time to clean and inspect the door seals. If they are torn, warped, or worn, replace them immediately. You’ll not only keep your refrigerator from freezing food, but you’ll save energy as well because the compressor will work harder to maintain a constant temperature.
