How to customize the Navigation bar on your Galaxy device
The Navigation bar is the menu that appears at the bottom of your screen; it's the foundation for navigating your device. However, it isn't set in stone; you can customize the layout and order of the Recent button, Home button, and Back button, or even make it disappear entirely and use gestures to navigate your device instead.
The classic navigation bar, positioned at the bottom of your screen, includes the Recents, Home, and Back buttons, serving as the default navigation method for all Galaxy phones and tablets. Here's a breakdown of the functions of the three buttons:
- Recents: Located on the far left, tapping this button reveals your recently opened apps.
- Home: Positioned in the center, tapping this button swiftly takes you to the Home screen.
- Back: Situated on the far right, tapping this button enables you to return to the previous screen.
It's important to note that the Navigation bar may disappear when using specific apps, such as gaming or video services. In such cases, a simple swipe up will temporarily display the bar, facilitating navigation as needed.
Additionally, you have the flexibility to arrange the buttons on the Navigation bar according to your preference.
Navigate to Settings, tap Display, and then select Navigation bar. Ensure that Buttons is chosen, and you can then customize your preferred button arrangement at the bottom of the screen.
Note: Keep in mind that this option will also impact the location from which you swipe when utilizing Swipe gestures.
Alternatively, you can opt for gestures instead of buttons to streamline navigation on your device, providing a simpler experience or achieving a less cluttered screen appearance.
To enable this feature, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Settings and tap Display.
- Access Navigation bar and select Swipe gestures.
- Activate Gesture hint to receive guidance on where to swipe, and enable the Show button to hide the keyboard for the buttons to appear when using portrait mode. Additionally, you can prevent accidental gestures with the S Pen while drawing or writing.
- For further customization, tap More options to edit the direction for swiping.
The functions for each gesture are as follows:
- Far left: Swiping here reveals your recently opened apps.
- Middle: A swipe up in the center takes you to the Home screen.
- Far right: Swiping here navigates you back to the previous screen.
Note: To completely conceal the Swipe gestures lines, ensure Gesture hint is turned off by toggling the switch. This action hides the three lines at the bottom of the screen.
On the main screen of the Galaxy Z Fold series phone, you have the option to position the Navigation bar to the left, right, or center, catering to your preferred navigation style.
To customize the Navigation bar position, follow these steps:
Go to Settings and tap on Display.
Select Navigation bar, then tap Button position.
Choose your preferred position for the buttons.
Note:
- The position of the Navigation bar depends on whether this feature is enabled or disabled.
- If the Navigation bar is enabled, you can only move it to the left or right on the main screen.
- If it's disabled, the Navigation bar can only be positioned in the center.
