I had forgotten about the recovery code. What should I do?

Last Update date : 2023-08-27

It's easy to forget important account details, like a recovery code. If this has happened to you, don't worry. This article offers guidance on how to handle the situation. We'll explore steps to recover or reset your recovery code, ensuring you can regain account access while keeping your online security intact. Whether it's for email, social media, or other accounts, understanding the solutions available will help you manage this challenge effectively.

If you have a device that can access end-to-end encrypted data, you can change the recovery code via the device's

"Enhanced data protection > Change recovery code" menu.

The old recovery code is no longer available if you have updated the recovery code.

There is no way to access the end-to-end encrypted data if both the recovery code and the device that can access it are lost. Even if you have lost the current end-to-end encrypted data, you can still use the end-to-end encryption by initializing the end-to-end encryption.

When the end-to-end encryption is reset (initialized), the backed-up data cannot be accessed permanently.

Only with consent can the initialization of end-to-end encryption be supported.

While end-to-end encryption is enabled, it is applied and backed up while backing up to Samsung Cloud on devices that support enhanced data security.

Data items that enable enhanced data protection are encrypted and backed up end-to-end, while other data items that do not support enhanced data protection are backed up in the same way as previous backups without encryption.

Furthermore, data backed up prior to activating enhanced data protection cannot be restored.

The problem could happen if you try to reset your recovery code on one device while using your current device to input a recovery code. After you've finished resetting the recovery code on the other device, please give it a shot.

The "Enhanced Data Protection" feature is dependent on your Samsung account to function. As a result, activation, deactivation, encryption, decryption, reset recovery codes, and notification popups for errors or alarms can all pop up on devices that are logged into the same Samsung account.
