Pictures in the My Files app are missing from the Gallery app
These files may be set to hidden if your images are visible in 'My Files' but not in the Gallery app. This prevents other programs, such as Gallery, from searching for media. You can adjust the setting to reveal hidden files to resolve this issue.
To Allow Access to All Photos and Videos:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Select app > Permissions > Photos and videos.
- Set it to Always allow all.
To Allow Access to Designated Photos and Videos:
- Adjust the Select photos and videos option through each app’s settings for permissions.
If some app’s access permissions for all files are disabled, pictures taken or downloaded may not display correctly in the Gallery app. To resolve this issue:
Turn on All Files Access for Relevant Apps:
- Go to Settings > Apps > More options (three dots) > Special access > All files access.
- Enable access for Download Manager, Media, MTP application, and MTP Host.
- Restart your phone.
Note:If the issue persists, try restarting your phone again after taking pictures.
The Gallery app can now automatically group together similar images to help keep your images organized, this may hide some images until you tap the group. Tap the grouping icon next to search to disable grouping.
In the Albums tab of Gallery, tap the three vertical dots for More options, then select 'Select albums to show.' Albums without a check mark will not be displayed. Tap to add or remove a check mark for the desired album.
Navigate and open My Files. You may need to open the Samsung folder to find My Files. Tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Settings.
Tap the switch next to Show hidden system files, and then tap Back to return to the file list. Hidden files will now appear.
Navigate to the folder containing the image files and look for a file named .nomedia. Tap and hold that file, and then tap Delete.
You can check the Trash in both My Files and the Gallery app.
- My Files: Navigate to and open My Files, then tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Trash. Navigate to and touch and hold the missing file. Then, tap Restore.
- Gallery: Navigate to and open the Gallery app, then tap the menu on the lower right, then Trash. To restore an image, tap Edit, and then select your image, or a group of images. Tap Restore, and the images will be removed from the trash.
Note: If you have sent an image to the trash in the Gallery app, it will be permanently deleted after 30 days.
Pictures downloaded from some apps may not appear in Gallery. However, sometimes downloaded images will appear in the Download folder but not in the main Picture tab or in other folders, like Camera. Tap Albums, and then tap Downloads to see if the images are there.
Some apps may manage their folder permissions to prevent access from other apps like Gallery. In these cases you may be able to use My Files to copy the content to the Pictures folder.
When the image files are in a supported folder, they will appear in Gallery.
