What to do when Samsung home theater surround speakers does not work?

Last Update date : 2024-01-04

Samsung Home Theater can be composed of different types of speakers to provide the best audio experience possible to its users. A non-working speaker can cause an unpleasant experience while listening to audio coming from the home theater.

Check the following according to the issues and scenarios listed below.

1 Turn up the volume.
  • Increase the volume on the external device and the home theater system.

2 Verify that the correct source is set on the home theater system and TV.
  • If you are watching a Blu-ray disc on your Blu-ray home theater system, the source needs to be set to BD/DVD on the home theater system. If the home theater is connected to HDMI 1, confirm that the source on the TV is set to HDMI 1.
  • If you have a game console connected to your home theater system with an HDMI cable, set the source on your home theater system to HDMI. If the home theater is connected to HDMI 1 on the TV, set the TV to HDMI 1.
  • If you have a DVD player connected to your home theater system using an optical audio cable, your home theater system's source needs to be set to D. Your home theater system may or may not be connected to the TV, but the DVD player is. If you are using a component cable, your TV's source needs to be set to component.

Note: There are many ways to connect devices to your home theater system. It is important to know how your devices are connected so the source can be selected properly. You can find more connection scenarios in your user manual.

3 Check the speaker connections in the back of the home theater system.
  • Make sure the speaker wires are firmly connected to the correct outputs on the rear of the home theater system; they should not be loose. Always match the color band on the speaker cable to the same color sticker on the bottom of the speaker and to the same color port on the back of the home theater system and wireless module.

Note: The speaker outlets on the rear of the home theater system are labeled for each individual speaker. The speaker cables may also be color-coded to match each speaker.

4 Make sure the speaker wires are securely attached to the speakers.

Some home theater system models' speaker wires cannot be removed from the speaker. If you have one of these models, skip this step.

  • Open the red and black tabs on the back of the speakers.
  • Remove and then reinsert the speaker wires.
  • Close the black and red tabs on the metal part of the speaker wires, not the part that is coated in plastic. If you close the tabs on the coated plastic part of the wire, no audio will output from the speaker.
5 Run a speaker test.

If these steps do not match your home theater system, check the user manual for your home theater system.

  • If there are any discs in the home theater system, remove them.
  • Change the source to BD/DVD and wait for the home menu to appear.
  • Navigate to Settings > Speaker Settings > Speaker Test > On.

Each speaker will emit a tone in the following order: left, center, right, rear right, rear left, and subwoofer.

  • If you hear the tone from all of your speakers, your home theater system is working properly.
  • If you do not hear the tone, please call our contact center to request a service appointment.
1 Set the correct PL II mode.

Many types of media (such as CDs, DVDs, and TV broadcasts) are recorded or broadcast in stereo only, meaning they are designed to only play through the front speakers.

Your home theater has PL II Mode, which sets stereo sound to also play through the rear speakers.

  • When listening to CDs, press the PL II Mode button on the home theater's remote control until the home theater system's display reads MUSIC.
  • When listening to a TV broadcast that is in stereo, press the PL II Mode button until the home theater system's display reads MATRIX or PROLOGIC II.
  • When watching a DVD that doesn't have 5.1 surround sound, press the PL II Mode button until the home theater system's display reads CINEMA.
  • If a DVD has 5.1 surround sound, be sure to select the surround sound track from the DVD's main menu.
2 Use the right audio cables.

To get surround sound, you must use an optical or HDMI cable to connect the audio source to the home theater system. If the device you're getting audio from does not have an optical or HDMI output connection, you must use RCA audio cables instead.

  • If you use RCA audio cables to connect an audio source to the home theater system, you will only get stereo sound. By default, this only uses the front speakers, but you can output stereo sound from both your front and rear speakers using PL II Mode (see the previous step).
3 Check your speaker connections.
  • Verify that the ports you are using on the rear of the home theater match the speakers you are connecting.
  • Verify that the speaker cable is securely connected to the speaker ports.
  • Verify the speaker cable is clipped to the metal and not the plastic coating.
4 If you're using a Samsung Wireless Audio device, confirm it is installed correctly.

Samsung Wireless Audio (SWA-8000S ~ SWA-8500S ~ SWA-9000S) modules are optional accessories available for select Samsung home theaters that let you connect your rear speakers to the home theater system wirelessly. When using one of these accessories, you must make sure it is installed correctly.

  • If your home theater system is compatible with one of the SWA accessories, your user manual will indicate which model and have a step-by-step connection and setup guide for the wireless device.

Note: If the rear speakers still do not output sound, So you need to call our contact center and our helpful agents will help you.

Note: Some home theater system models' speaker wires cannot be removed from the speaker. If you have one of these models, skip this step.

3 Try connecting the speaker to a different set of ports on the home theater system.
  • Disconnect the speaker that's not working from the home theater system.
  • Disconnect a speaker that you know is working, and connect it where the non-working speaker was connected.
  • Connect the non-working speaker where the speaker you just moved was connected.
  • Test both speakers to see which one now works.

  • If the issue follows the speaker (the same speaker doesn't work in both ports), then the speaker will need to be replaced.

If the issue follows the port on the home theater system (neither speaker works in that port, but they both work in the other port), service is required for the home theater system.
