What Does IRC Mean? What Does HRC Mean?
Incremental Related Carriers (IRC) - A method of spacing and transmitting television channels on a cable television system that prevents interference among the channels and reduces a form of distortion.
Cable companies also use the following transmission formats:
Standard Cable TV (STD) - The most widely use method of spacing and transmitting television channels on a cable television system to prevent interference among the different channels.
Harmonic Related Carrier (HRC) - Harmonic Related Carrier is a method of spacing and transmitting television channels on a cable television system to prevent interference. The channels are spaced at 6-MHz intervals, with all carrier frequencies harmonically related to a common reference.
If your first broadcast channel is channel 2, then your cable company uses Standard Cable. If your first broadcast channel is channel 1, then your cable company uses the HRC (Harmonic Relate Carrier) method.
Note: When you begin the process of programming channels into some TVs, you have to select which video transmission format your cable company uses before you can start the programming process. If your TV requires you to select the transmission format, your best bet is to contact your cable company for that information.
