How to activate and exit Maintenance Mode on your Samsung TV and Smart Monitor

Samsung TVs and Smart Monitors include Maintenance Mode–a feature that allows you to control your privacy by allowing access to only the most basic functions required to carry out any necessary repairs. While activating Maintenance Mode, you can also backup your preferences, like Picture settings and then restore them once the repairs are completed. Should you ever need to send your device to one of our service centres for repairs, follow this guide to place your TV or Smart Monitor in Maintenance Mode.

A Samsung Smart TV is displaying Maintenance Mode

Many apps that are downloaded onto a user’s TV or Smart Monitor require personal information, such as credit card numbers; so before sending your device for repairs, follow the instructions below to help control your privacy by activating Maintenance Mode.

1 Navigate to and open Settings > All Settings > Support > Maintenance Mode.

2 If you wish to save your settings before continuing, select Backup data and follow the instructions in the Backup and restore settings section below. If not, select Start and continue to step 3.

3 Create a 4-number PIN, and then enter the PIN again in the spaces on the second line.

4 Your TV or Smart Monitor will restart and Maintenance Mode will be activated. Only Connected devices and Settings will be accessible. All items related to personal information will be blocked.

After the repair is complete, use the following steps to deactivate Maintenance Mode and resume enjoying your favorite games and shows on your device.

1 Press the Home button and select Exit.

2 Input the PIN you created when starting Maintenance Mode, and then select Done.

3 Your TV or Smart Monitor will restart and your device should now be displaying your apps.

4 If you opted to back up your data while initiating Maintenance Mode, follow the Restore settings instructions in the Backup and restore settings section below.

If you chose to backup your settings preferences while initiating Maintenance Mode, follow the steps below to save them to a USB flash drive as well as to restore them once the repairs on your device are complete.

Backup data

1 Insert a USB flash drive into a USB port on your device, and then select Start.

2 When the green check mark appears on the screen, select OK, and then remove the USB flash drive.

3 Return to step 3 in the Activate Maintenance Mode section above.

Restore data

1 Navigate to and open Settings > All Settings > Support > Maintenance Mode > Restore data.

2 Insert the USB flash drive containing your saved data into a USB port on your device and select Start.

3 When the green check mark appears, select OK and remove your USB flash drive.
