What is a refrigerant in an AC?
Refrigerant:
Definition:
A substance that by undergoing a change in phase (liquid to gas, gas to liquid) releases or absorbs a large latent heat in relation to its volume, and thus effects a considerable cooling effect.
Broad idea:
● In simpler terms, it is a cooling substance that is responsible for the cooling effect of the air-conditioner.
● R22 with a molecular formula of CHCLF2 is the most widely used refrigerant for the Air-conditioners. It constantly changes its state(Solid, Liquid and gas) at different temperature.
Caution:
Refrigerants are too dangerous at higher temperature as it can catch flame.
