Why I need to keep Firmware on my TV up to date?
Please Note: The information on this page is for New Zealand products only. Sequences or settings will vary depending on location and/or where the product had been purchased. To be redirected to your local support page please click here.
Please remember that you don’t pay anything to your TV’s manufacturer after you’ve purchased the product and TV manufacturers rarely benefit directly from updating the firmware on TVs.
It costs a great deal of money to develop and test an firmware before it is released and manufacturers do this to provide you with on going support and to maintain customer satisfaction.
Why are TVs (and other products like set-top boxes, home theatres) updated?
• If some online services such as YouTube, Netflix and etc. change their requirements for devices connection to their service than TV also will need a software update.
The changes might not be apparent to you but it could be that in some time soon an app will become unusable because the software was not updated on your TV.
• If there are some changes to the broadcast system happening now or in the future and in order to continue watching channels or to get an improved service, you need the update.
• Some updates add things like improved energy efficiency or improved HDMI compatibility (this is always an on-going challenge for manufacturers).
Please update your devices and keep them up to date. These releases are for your benefit.
