Get Snow/Static When Trying To Use My DVD-VCR Combo For The First Time.
The problem with snow and static is probably caused by in incorrect RF output channel setting. The RF output channel on your combo unit is preset to Channel 3, a channel that most cable companies leave blank so people can hook up VCRs and DVD players to their TVs. However, some cable companies leave Channel 4 blank. If your cable company leaves Channel 4 blank, you must change the preset RF output channel on your combo unit to Channel 4.
Depending on the model you have, you can change the preset RF output channel by changing the position of a VCR Tuner Channel Selector switch on the back of your unit or by accessing the on-screen menu. Both procedures are covered below.
Using the VCR Tuner Channel Selector Switch
If your combo unit has a VCR Tuner Channel Selector switch on its back panel, follow these steps to change the RF Output channel:
Turn off your combo unit.
Turn off your TV.
Find the VCR Tuner Channel Selector switch on the back of your unit. For most combo units, the switch is next to the RF input and RF output jacks.
Move the switch from 3 to 4.
Using the On-Screen Menu
If your combo unit does not have a VCR Tuner Channel Selector switch on its back panel, follow these steps to change the RF Output channel:
Disconnect the cable television cable from the RF Input jack on the back of your combo unit.
Important: Do not disconnect the combo unit from the TV.
Turn on your combo unit.
Turn on your TV and set it to Channel 3.
Press the Setup button on your remote. The Main menu appears.
Using the Up and Down or Right and Left buttons on your remote, move the selection cursor to Option Setup. Press Enter.
Using your remote, move the selection cursor to RF Output Channel.
Press the Right button on your remote to change the channel to 4.
Press the Return button on your remote. A message appears on your TV.
Press the Enter button on your remote. A message appears on your TV.
When the message disappears, change your TV channel to 4.
Reconnect the cable television cable.
